      Board in process of updating text books
            JACKSON - The Jackson Board of Education is in the process of replacing outdated text books with newer instructional materials. At a May 20 board meeting, Assistant Superintendent Lu Anne Meinders brought board members up to date with the latest information pertaining to social studies texts, materials and curriculum.

      Festival comes to high school
            JACKSON - Liberty Festival 2008 will take place at Jackson Liberty High School, 125 North Hope Chapel Road, Jackson, 5-10 p.m. June 12-14 and 1-6 p.m. June 15. The event will feature nonstop entertainment all four days.

      Plans for ice hockey score with FRHSD
            Ice hockey looks like a "go" in the Freehold Regional High School District. After lobbying district administrators for several years, a group of parents and players have gotten the go-ahead to begin raising money to fund the sport beginning in the 2008-09 school year.

      Making new friends
            First-graders from the Switlik Elementary School, Jackson, recently had a chance to meet their pen pals from the Melvin Cottrell Center for Senior Citizens and the Disabled. Sheri Silversmith, senior center program administrator, said the children and the senior citizens have been writing to each other since December.
