Church to host praise band concert/fundraiser
      The DeBows United Methodist Church, corner of Routes 571 and 537, Jackson, will sponsor a turkey or meat loaf dinner and concert 6 p.m. June 28 in support of the youth mission trip to Ohio. The Schaf Praise Band from Browns Mills will entertain at the event. The cost is $12 for adults, $6 for children, and free for children ages 5 years and under.

Tour the waters of Silver Bay by kayak
      Estuary kayak tours will depart from the Ocean County Parks Administration office boat dock, Toms River, 8 a.m. July 8,16, 21 and 29. They will return at 10 a.m. Two-person sit-on-top kayaks will be used to explore the waters around Cattus Island Park. Kayaks allow a stealthy approach to the wildlife of the tidal marsh.

Doo wop dinner-dance planned for dads & girls
      A Father and Daughter Doo Wop Dinner and Dance sponsored by the Howell Recreation Department will be held from 6-9 p.m. Sept. 19 at Our House Restaurant, Howell. Tickets are $31 per person and can be purchased at the Howell Recreation Building, 251 Preventorium Road, Howell. The event is geared toward children ages 5-12.

Lakewood woman honored with grant
      Photographer Naljah Feanny Hicks of Clifton, co-founder of the Heart Gallery of New Jersey, earned a $50,000 cash grant from the Russell Berrie Foundation as the winner of the 2008 Russ Berrie Award for Making a Difference.

Jackson church will host vacation Bible school
      The Jackson United Methodist Church invites children ages 3-10 to "ride the wave of God's love" at its summer vacation Bible school program, "Beach Party: Surfin' Through The Scriptures." The program will be held from 5:45-8:45 p.m. July 14-18. A CD with all the songs and computer games played during the program will be available for $5 per family.

Goetz middle school student attends leadership forum in Washington, D.C.
      Sydney Gutherz, a student at the Carl W. Goetz Middle School, Jackson, attended a People to People World Leadership Forum in Washington, D.C., in April. Gutherz earned high school credit while studying leadership and exploring some of the United States' most prominent monuments and institutions.
