Jersey Shore PFLAG will conduct its monthly support group from 7-9 p.m. Nov. 12 at the United Church of Christ of Toms River, 1681 Ridgeway Road (Route 571), Manchester. The meetings offer support, education and advocacy for people who have lesbians and gays, bisexuals, transgender and intersex people in their lives. New Egypt recreation basketball will accept registration for the upcoming season from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 30 at New Egypt High School. Recreation basketball is open to boys and girls in grades K-8. The cost is $50 per child in grades 1-8 with a family maximum of $125 for three or more registrations, and $30 per child in kindergarten (instruction-no games). "Ghost Hunters - Paranormal Investigation: Capturing Ghosts' Pictures and Voices" will be presented by L'Aura L. Hladik, founder and director of the New Jersey Ghost Hunters Society, at 7 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Jackson library, 2 Jackson Drive, Jackson. The Howell Parks and Recreation Department will host its annual Halloween social for Howell residents 5-7:30 p.m. Oct. 30 at the recreation building, 251 Preventorium Road, Howell. The event will feature activities, face painting, balloon sculptures, horse and carriage rides and a Mad Science show at 6:30 p.m. Residents are invited to come in costume and bring a carved jacko' lantern to be placed on a "magical" display. A Rock and Roll Halloween Party will be held at the Central Jersey Italian American Club, 36 Cpl. Luigi Marciante Jr. Memorial Drive, Jackson, at 8 p.m. Oct. 31. The annual trick-or-treating event, "Good Treats and Safe Streets," will be held 4-6 p.m. Oct. 31 on Main Street in New Egypt. Stores with a happy jack-o'-lantern in the store window are participating in the event.

"Where On Earth Am I? (A beginner's class on maps, compasses and GPS)" will be held at Cattus Island County Park, Toms River, from noon to 4 p.m. Nov. 15. This course will focus on the basics of plotting routes using a map and compass, general GPS unit operations, and tips and tricks for interfacing a GPS unit with computerized topographic maps. The classroom session will be followed by a GPS treasure hunt through the forest at Cattus Island. Participants are not required to own any GPS or compass equipment. Those who do own equipment may bring it with them. Participants must be able to walk over uneven ground and through brush. Cost: $5 per person, open to adults.
