      Special Needs Network provides care for kids
            The Children's Home Society of New Jersey has announced its expansion of the Special Needs Network in Ocean County. Its goal is to provide a safe, inclusive environment for children with special needs and challenges. Providers are state-registered, CPR- and first aid-trained, and receive extensive training.

      Jackson's menorah lighting Dec. 23
            Jackson's annual Hanukkah menorah lighting will be held from 4:30-6 p.m. Dec. 23 at the municipal building, West Veterans Highway. The menorah was donated by Rabbi Carlbach, spiritual director of the Chabad of Central and South Jersey, who will officiate at the lighting of the candles and explain the miracle of Hanukkah.

      Special Olympics supported by school
            Pupils at the St. Aloysius School in Jackson held their second Gator Swamp Stomp and raised money for the Special Olympics. More than $4,500 was raised by the school community and 25 cents of every dollar was set aside for Special Olympics.

      Food stamp assistance to be available Dec. 3
            Assistance with food stamp paperwork will be available at the Melvin Cottrell Center for Senior Citizens and the Disabled, 45 Don Connor Blvd., Jackson, from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 3.

      Vendors are sought for shopping spree
            Vendors are needed for Howell Middle School North's Holiday Shopping Spree scheduled for 6:30-9 p.m. Dec. 12. The school is at 501 Squankum-Yellowbrook Road, Howell. Table space is $25.       Tack sale will aid animal rescue groups
            A benefit tack sale and holiday shopping extravaganza will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Ocean County 4-H Agriculture building, Route 527/Whitesville Road, Toms River. The event will be hosted by 7-year-old Girl Scout Erin Juilette and the Bit of Class 4-H Horse Club of Ocean County.

            Representatives of 180 Turning Lives Around Inc. were joined recently by New Jersey Department of Children and Families (DCF) Commissioner Kimberly Ricketts to announce the successful statewide rollout of the 2nd Floor Youth Helpline.

            The math team from St. Veronica School in Howell recently competed in the Christian Brothers Academy seventh annual Brother Christian Jones Mathematics Contest and finished in third place in the Private/ Parochial Division behind Ranney School and Oak Hill Academy, respectively.

      Author to discuss life of Sammy Davis Jr.
            Award-winning investigative journalist Matt Birkbeck, author of "Deconstructing Sammy: Music, Money, Madness, and the Mob," will speak about the life of entertainer Sammy Davis Jr. at 7 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Toms River library, 101 Washington St., Toms River.
