      Jackson pins down victory against Brick Memorial

            Pinelanders Youth Soccer Club, Howell, is now accepting registrations for the spring 2009 recreational soccer season. Registration is open to boys and girls who will be ages 4-18 on April 1, 2009; birth certificates are required at registration. Girls ages 5-18 can choose all-girl or co-ed soccer. The fee is $45 per player, $90 maximum per family.

      Howell swim teams eye winning campaigns
            Despite a large turnover from last year's 7-6 season, Howell boys swim coach Michael Ward expects his club to finish the 2008-09 season with a winning record. Robin Stohrer, meanwhile, has only two seniors on the girls' team, which is 3-3 and also looking for a winning season.

      Freehold's Espinosa wins Polar Bear race
            Freehold's Pedro Espinosa outran the rest of the polar bears. The veteran road racer won the Shore Athletic Club's (SAC) 45th annual Asbury Park Polar Bear Five-Mile Race on Dec. 27. Espinosa toured the Asbury Park boardwalk course in 27:07, finishing ahead of Matt Carlin (27:33) of College Park, Md. Third place went to Wall's Jeff Propert (29:18).
