      OCC to offer NJ Stars information program
            Ocean County College will hold an NJ Stars information session at 6 p.m. Feb. 18. The statewide program provides students in the top 15 percent of their graduating class the opportunity to attend a New Jersey community college for the first two years for free.

      Defensive driving class offered in Lakewood
            The Lakewood Community School in cooperation with American Drivers Safety Council will sponsor a Defensive Driving - Two Point Reduction class on Feb. 22 or March 22. The classes will be held at the Best Western Hotel, 1600 Route 70, Lakewood, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; the fee is $40.

      Substitute nurse program to be offered
            The Office of School Relations at Ocean County College is offering a seven-hour training seminar for licensed New Jersey registered nurses who are interested in becoming substitute school nurses. A one-day Substitute School Nurse Training Institute will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 7 at the college in Toms River.

      High school to host Harlem Wizards
            JACKSON — The PTN of the Crawford Rodriguez Elementary School will sponsor a visit from the Harlem Wizards basketball team on Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. at Jackson Liberty High School, 125 North Hope Chapel Road. The Harlem Wizards is a professional team of basketball players who perform tricks, hoops and much more.

      Parents group to hold board elections
            The executive board of the Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) in Howell's 13 schools will hold elections for the 2009-10 school year. SEPAC is a support group for special-needs children in the Howell School District.

      Libraries to close for Presidents Day
            All branches of the Ocean County Library will be closed Feb. 16 for the Presidents Day holiday. The library Web site, www.theoceancountylibrary.org, and its databases will be available during that time. All branches of the Ocean County Library will resume normal branch hours on Feb. 17.
