      Union president dismayed over furloughs
            Howell Township has implemented a plan to "force furlough" its blue collar and white collar employees for up to 12 weeks over the 2009 calendar year. The 125-plus employees are members of the Transport Workers Union Local 225, Branch 4, and are very angry, dismayed and totally opposed to any furlough or layoff plan.

            Incidents of violence and suicide involving returning veterans who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan are of great concern to everyone. Local newspapers across the country have reported on the numerous stories of assault, suicide, rape and homicide.

      Water treatment plant project concerns Jackson resident
            This is a copy of an e-mail that I sent to Jackson Board of Education President Marvin Krakower, the Jackson Township Council and police and fire officials. It concerns the construction of a water treatment plant by the Jackson Township Municipal Utilities Authority on the emergencyvehicle only road which connects to a part of London Drive in Jackson's Flair development.

            This is an open letter to the Howell teachers and administrators' union presidents. You may have heard of the group Howell TRUTH - Townspeople Rooting out Unnecessary Tax Hikes - and you may believe that TRUTH is "the opposition." In fact, TRUTH is on the same side of the school closing issue as you.

      Bill leaves no loopholes, ensures safety of students, faculty
            Iam writing this letter in regard to the story titled "Background Check Bill Clears Senate" that appeared in the Nov. 13, 2008, issue of the Tri-Town News. The article indicates that the New Jersey Senate has passed a bill that will advance the background checks on school administrators, bus drivers and any other employees who have contact with students.

      Newspaper article highlights need for local volunteers
            Ihave read your newspaper regularly and would like to give a thank you for your articles and pictures on "Volunteer Opportunities Abound" by Dave Benjamin (Tri-Town News, Feb. 5, 2009). As part of the Dr. Martin Luther King birthday celebration at the Jackson library, our Cornerstone Presbyterian Church of Jackson had a display on our volunteer ministries.

      Resident apologizes for taking a shot at school board
            Imust apologize to the members of the Jackson Board of Education for the way my letter in the Tri-Town News came out ("Biggest Thieves in Town are Running the School Board," Tri-Town News, Feb. 5). did not mean to infer or imply that the members were taking anything that they were not personally entitled to.

      For the Record
            The Jackson Township Council is renaming Holly Tree Court as Eden Way. Holly Tree Court is off Hickory Hill Road. The name of the street that is being renamed was incorrect in a photo caption published in the Feb. 5 Tri-Town News.
