      Sky Blue FC ready to play some soccer
      Three women make the cut at tryouts for Women's Professional Soccer
            After two days of tryouts, 26 players sat silently in a semicircle, waiting to hear if they had made the cut. On Feb. 25, 51 players had entered the practice field at GoodSports USA at Allaire in Wall Township, hoping to play for the Sky Blue FC Soccer team, a part of the inaugural season of Women's Professional Soccer.

      Benefit golf outing set
            The ninth annual Caring Classic Golf Tournament benefiting Caregiver Volunteers of Central Jersey is set for May 11 at the Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Lakewood. Registration and lunch begins at noon and a shotgun start is set for 1:30 p.m.

      Rebels win Dowd Cup in first hockey campaign
            There was no need for a pep talk or even a scolding.       Three Jaguars advance to state mat tournament
            For a guy who only spends three months a year on the wrestling mat, Jackson Memorial High School senior Tyler Wilton certainly has made the most of his efforts. Wilton advanced to the championship round of the NJSIAA Region VI tournament last weekend before bowing to Long Branch High School standout Jon Robertson at 145 pounds.

      Goetz hoopsters end campaign with 12-12 record
            The Goetz Middle School boys basketball team of Jackson recently capped its 2008-09 season with a solid showing in the St. Dominic School, Brick Township, tournament. The Goetz cagers from Jackson won two games before losing in the semifinals.
