Ocean Health Initiative Inc. (OHI), a Federally Qualified Health Care Center with offices in Lakewood and Toms River, will honor two community leaders with the 2009 Community Service Recognition Award at a fundraising event and cocktail reception from 5:30-8:30 p.m. April 2 at the Eagle Ridge Golf Club, Lakewood. Dr. Anthony Lombardino, vice president of medical affairs at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood, and Alison Ingenito, founder and CEO of the foundation called Yoga & U, LLC, will each be recognized for their services to OHI and the community. The Orchards at Bartley, 100 North County Line Road, Jackson, is offering a free presentation to celebrate National Nutrition Month. "Eating Right at Any Age" will be presented from 1:30-2:30 p.m. March 17. Bartley's Registered Dietician, Jane Stoedter, will discuss the importance of eating right - especially among the senior population - and its effect on overall health. Ocean County College Foundation recently received a $55,000 donation from OceanFirst Foundation in support of scholarship programs for Ocean County College students. The check was presented on Jan. 26 during the OCC Foundation's Executive Committee meeting.
Lakewood's Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ) had 61 newly certified businesses join the business incentive program in 2008; and since January 2009, six new businesses have already received UEZ approval, with an anticipation of more to come.
Russell K. Corby, executive director of the Lakewood Development Corporation which administers the program, attributes Lakewood's designation as a UEZ as being the prime incentive for the growth in the Lakewood business community even during tough economic times.
According to Yehuda Abraham, Lakewood's UEZ deputy director for compliance, businesses in the UEZ range from mom and pop stores to larger entities and franchises such as Starbucks, Norwood Auto Parts, Hatzolah Emergency Medical Services, Jersey Mike's, Hilton Garden Inn, The Voice (newspaper) and Quikie Print, among others.

Seashore Family Services of New Jersey (SFSNJ) is now offering a sliding-fee scale based on income for its family services. The sliding-fee scale would be used for all self-pay clients including individuals and families without insurance. SFSNJ specializes in addiction, trauma and adolescent counseling issues in the area.
