      Krakower, Spielman, Schiazza earn support

The time to vote for the best school board members in Jackson, April 21, has again approached. Therefore, it is time for the voter to do a little homework before marking down the choice of candidates as if taking a multiple choice test.

Even I, who spent so many years serving on the board, must pause, study, review, before making an educated choice. Our goal must always be to cut waste while investing in the progress of our most valuable asset, our children. I am hoping that new residents in Jackson will read this and understand my logic.

No, I will not make any negative statement against John Morvay. After all, we worked side by side for so many years. Still, I am not moved by a single issue: that of the superintendent's salary. There is no question that our schools have improved and continue to improve due to our superintendent's professional skills and, equally as important, because of the selfless dedicated efforts of Marvin Krakower and Marty Spielman.

I am voting for Marvin and Marty because I care about how my tax dollars are invested and how our school district is preparing our children to rise and prepare for the national economic storm that awaits them. I know very little about the skills and track records of the candidates running alongside John Morvay, so I cannot blindly cast my vote for them.

I am sure they are good people, but I have indeed heard, read and spoken with Theresa Schiazza and I am impressed by her many skills and dedication. I hope that not one voter is swayed by the negative statements and literature that suddenly appears in fliers, handouts and letters to the editor.

My position is, it is easy to complain and put down, but where are the ideas? Where are the resolutions to the problems facing American schools? Don't let the constant harping on "taxes" be your only motivating force. The greatest waste of money is the theft of services by those whose promise of rolling up their sleeves to get to work means only that some partisan political group gains and that there will be unethical monetary gain by individuals and or groups whose eye is not on the prize, the modern and effective education of all of our children at all levels in all schools.

I also recommend, as a retired Catholic school teacher, that the parents of parochial school children invest the time to vote for residents like Marty, Marvin and Theresa so that it may benefit their community at large. Vote wisely. Leave all false innuendos out of this important choice. After all, our nation is in trouble and our nation needs educated citizens to fill good-paying jobs. And, after all, doesn't our nation begin at the doors of our homes and at our schoolhouse door?
