      New Egypt Elks to host 'Touch a Truck'
            The New Egypt Elks and the New Egypt United Methodist Church are sponsoring "Touch a Truck" from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 25 at the New Egypt Elks, Lakewood Road (Route 528).       Knights golf tourney will benefit charities
            The Howell-Jackson Knights of Columbus Council 6201 will hold its 25th annual charity golf tournament on May 18 at the Pine Barrens Golf Club in Jackson. This year's event will be held in memory of Brother James R. Sheeran Sr. The cost is $185 per player, which includes a hot breakfast before the 9 a.m.

      JTMUA will break ground for new plant
            JACKSON — The Jackson Township Municipal Utilities Authority will hold a groundbreaking ceremony at 10 a.m. April 29 at the new Manhattan Street water treatment plant. The new plant will be on London Drive off Manhattan Street. The rain date for the ceremony is April 30 at 10 a.m. Parking at the groundbreaking will be limited.

      Fitness, fun planned for New Egypt Day
            PLUMSTED — Main Street New Egypt and the Neighborhood Preservation Program of Plumsted will host the annual New Egypt Day festival on May 16 (rain or shine). Vendors, businesses, fitness professionals and local organizations are still being sought to participate. The deadline for vendor registration is May 1.

      New recycling containers ready
            JACKSON — Four new 20-yard, barnstyle recycling containers have been placed in Jackson's bulky waste convenience center at 10 Don Connor Boulevard. In an effort to promote and advance Jackson's recycling program, Mayor Mike Reina approved the purchase of the containers.

      Flea market coming to Lakewood May 9
            A kids' stuff flea market will be held at Ocean County Park, Route 88, Lakewood, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 9. Vendors are now being accepted to sell new and used children's items.       Movie at library will focus on Lyme disease
            To mark Lyme Disease Awareness Month, the Jackson library, 2 Jackson Drive, Jackson, will show the award-winning film "Under Our Skin," about Lyme disease and ticks, at 1 p.m. May 30. The documentary is 104 minutes long, and a question-and-answer period will follow the viewing of the film. The program is free and open to the public, but registration is requested.

            Ian Vogler, a senior at Lakewood High School, has won the Pictures 2009 NJ Student Music Composition Contest, sponsored by New Jersey Arts Collective. Entrants were asked to create original compositions for a percussion quartet based on "Queensborough Bridge" by Elsie Driggs.

This is the second year in a row that Ian was selected as a Pre- College Category Winner.

      Center will offer free pregnancy testing
            The Family Planning Center of Ocean County, 290 River Ave., Lakewood, is offering free pregnancy tests through June. Tay Walker, chief executive officer of the center, encourages women to get a pregnancy test as soon as they suspect they are pregnant.

      Teens to fast for 30 hours to fight hunger
            HOWELL — The Church of the Master, 110 Salem Hill Road, will host the following events: • Local teens and youth groups will participate in World Vision's 30-Hour Famine on May 8-9 to give the young people a real taste of hunger to help feed and care for children living in extreme poverty around the world.
