• A National Day of Prayer sponsored by the Jackson Clergy Association will take place at 6:30 p.m. May 7 in front of the Jackson municipal building, 95 West Veterans Highway, Jackson.
• A Mother's Day plant sale/fundraiser will be held by Boy Scout Troop 258 from 11 a.m. to noon May 9-10 at the following locations in Howell: Sovereign Bank (Independence Bank), corner of Route 9 and Salem Hill Road; Prince of Peace Church, Aldrich Road; PNC Bank, Route 9 and Strickland Road; and Arby's, Route 9.
• Monmouth Academy will host an Evening of Auctions at 6:30 p.m. May 9 in its gymnasium, 152 Lanes Mill Road, Howell. Auction items will include professional and student artwork, sports, music and entertainment memorabilia, tickets to sporting events, gift baskets, and more. • A Kids' Stuff flea market will be held rain or shine from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 9 at the Ocean County Park, Route 88, Lakewood. All vendor spots have been sold out. • A flea market and flower sale will be held at DeBows United Methodist Church, intersection of Route 537 and Route 571, Jackson, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 9. • The Church of St. Monica Youth Group will have a flower sale to benefit the American Cancer Society following all Masses on Mother's Day Weekend, May 9- 10. The church is at 679 West Veterans Highway, Jackson.
• A New Jersey Safe Boating Course for adults age 16 and up will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 9 at the Echo Lake Pavilion in Echo Lake Park, Howell. Cost: $55. Details and registration: 732-938- 4500, ext. 2506.
• The Jackson Municipal Alliance holds monthly meetings at the Jackson library, 2 Jackson Drive, Jackson, 9-11 a.m. Meetings are scheduled for May 11, June 1 and July 6. The alliance is an organization dedicated to providing anti-alcohol, antidrug, anti-violence programs, while promoting positive, healthy decision making and fostering good citizenship for all the residents of Jackson and others who attend these programs. • A Kids Expo will be held at FirstEnergy Park, Lakewood, on May 11 beginning with free laser tag at 4:30 p.m. and a visit from Yosi of "Yosi and the Superdads," prior to the 6:30 p.m. start of the BlueClaws game. Details: 732-901-7000, option 3.
• The Harlem Wizards basketball team will visit Howell High School, Howell, on May 12 at 7 p.m. to play a game against school faculty. Sponsored by Howell Special Education Parents Advisory Council (SEPAC), proceeds will benefit children with cancer and the special-needs children of Howell. Tickets: $10 in advance, $12 at the door. • Bartley Healthcare, 175 Bartley Road, Jackson, will participate in the "Share Our Strengths Great American Bake Sale" from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 12. The event is part of a traditional campaign that works to help end childhood hunger in America by holding bake sales in local communities and keeping all proceeds in the communities in which they are raised. • A Providers Fair sponsored by the National Alliance on Mental Illness will be held at 6:30 p.m. May 13 at the Ocean County Complex Cafeteria, 129 Hooper Ave. (second floor), Toms River. Representatives from service agencies that support adults and children affected by mental illness will be on hand to talk to and offer information.
• An AARP Drivers Refresher Course for senior citizens will be offered in Jackson from 8:34 a.m. to noon May 13-14 at The Orchards at Bartley. The classroomstyle refresher course is designed to meet the needs of drivers over the age of 50. Preregistration is required and class size is limited to 10 students. • Jersey Shore PFLAG will conduct its monthly support group 7-9 p.m. May 13 at the United Church of Christ of Toms River, 1681 Ridgeway Rd. (Route 571), Manchester. The meetings, which are held on the second Wednesday of every month, offer support, education and advocacy for people who have lesbians and gays, bisexuals, transgender and intersex people in their lives. • The Ocean County Retired Educators Association will host its spring meeting and luncheon at the Quality Inn, Toms River, at 11 a.m. May 14.
