      Bone marrow drive to be held May 16
            PLUMSTED — Matthew Brand told his mother that when he got out of the hospital he wanted to hold a bone marrow drive. Matthew, who had leukemia, was lucky enough to get a bone marrow match and a donation from his older sister, Ashley.

      New Egypt Day to be held May 16
            PLUMSTED — Main Street New Egypt and the Neighborhood Preservation Program of Plumsted will host the annual New Egypt Day festival on May 16 (rain or shine). New Egypt Day is an outdoor street festival held annually in downtown New Egypt on Front Street (which runs parallel to Main Street) and at Oakford Lake Park.

      Auction of antiques, shore memorabilia in Ocean Grove
            OCEAN GROVE — The Historical Society of Ocean Grove continues its 2009 season of special fundraising events with the popular Memorial Day Weekend Auction on May 23 at the Young People's Temple in Ocean Grove. The preview is at 9 a.m., and the auction will commence at 11 a.m.

      Soccer game to aid Jackson Food Pantry
            It will be a fun-filled night of soccer when the Jackson Soccer Club's recreation coaches play one another in a charity game to benefit the Jackson Food Pantry. The game will take place Saturday, May 16, at 7 p.m. at the Jackson Justice Complex, West Veterans Highway.

      Local youths place in state soccer contest
            PLUMSTED — The New Egypt Elks Lodge No. 2457 acknowledged two local youths who competed and placed in the Elks State Soccer Shoot Championships. Danielle Grasso placed third in the championships for girls ages 12-13. Casey McKenzie won the state championship for girls ages 10-11. Casey is a two-time winner in the state competition.

      See 'The Marvelous Wonderettes' in NYC
            The Lakewood Community School is sponsoring a bus trip to see "The Marvelous Wonderettes" on Aug. 19. This off-Broadway musical production features 1950s and 1960s music sung by the Wonderettes at their 1958 prom. The $75 fee includes admission to the show, bus transportation and driver gratuity.

      Fundraiser will aid injured Jackson girl
            JACKSON — A fundraiser will be held for a Jackson high school student who was critically injured in a car accident. "Cheers for Chelsey" will be held at 6 p.m. May 15. Members of the Jackson Police Department and the New Jersey State Police will compete in a flag football game at the Pop Warner Holman Field on Manhattan Street.

      Fun Run and New Egypt Day May 16
            Plumsted Township School District's Fun Run between the Dr. Gerald H. Woehr Elementary School (44 North Main St.) and New Egypt High School (117 Evergreen Road) and the primary school (131 Evergreen Road) will be held May 16. Doors will open at 7 a.m. for registration at the elementary school, followed by the Fun Run at 8 a.m.

      Veterans sought for Memorial Day event
            Members of the Lakewood community are preparing to honor all veterans and those now serving in the military, at Lakewood's traditional Memorial Day ceremonies set for Monday, May 25, starting with the raising of the American flag at 9:45 a.m. at Lakewood's town square, Clifton Avenue.
