Jaguars claim A South baseball championship

      It had been a long time between Shore Conference A South Division titles for the Jackson Memorial High School baseball program. The last time the Jaguars won the crown was in 1994. The 2009 Jackson Memorial diamond squad put an end to the drought on May 8 as the Jaguars posted a workmanlike 6-0 victory over a scrappy Toms River North squad.

      Tim Hogan wanted his Howell High School golfers to focus only on playing their game. He did not want the Rebels to be distracted thinking about the bad weather (a constant drizzle with an occasional downpour) or what was at stake on May 4 — the Shore Conference Tournament championship.

      The Lakewood BlueClaws, along with Kean University, will host the 2009 Mid- Atlantic Regional of the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship at FirstEnergy Park, Lakewood, May 13-17. Games will be played beginning at 10 a.m. each day, leading up to the regional final at noon May 17.
