Barbara Meyer Darlin, costume historian and designer, will present a program that compares the lives and fashions of a turn-of-the-20th-century society lady with those of a working-class person who operated typewriters at the time, at 7 p.m. May 14 at the Jackson library. A fundraiser will be held for a Jackson high school student who was critically injured in a car accident. "Cheers for Chelsey" will be held at 6 p.m. May 15. Members of the Jackson Police and the New Jersey State Police will compete in a flag football game at the Pop Warner Holman Field on Manhattan Street, Jackson. A free workshop on sweetening the air with natural scents from the garden, sponsored by Calgo Gardens, 84 Cross St., Lakewood, will be held at 11 a.m. May 16. Nature walks will be offered at 2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays during May at Cattus Island County Park, Toms River. The programs are offered at no charge on the following dates and do not require preregistration: May 16-17, Wading Bird Watch. The Plumsted Township Council for the Arts will hold a Y-ART sale from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 16 at the township's annual New Egypt Day festival. Everything art will be for sale, including prints, photographs, music, art books, arts and crafts supplies and more. New Egypt Day on Front Street will feature fitness classes, inflatables, face painting, pony rides, live bands, canoe rides and more, all for free.

A classic car showcase will be held from noon to 3 p.m. May 16 at Bartley Healthcare, 175 Bartley Road, Jackson. Local classic car enthusiasts will have their prized vehicles on display — from a 1965 Mercedes to a 1962 T-Bird, and antique tractors and motorcycles. Plumsted School District's Fun Run between the Dr. Gerald H. Woehr Elementary School (44 North Main St.) and New Egypt High School (117 Evergreen Road) and the New Egypt Primary School (131 Evergreen Road) will be held May 16. Doors will open at 7 a.m. for registration at the elementary school followed by the Fun Run at 8 a.m. Free T-shirts, water bottles and blue ribbons for participating students. The class of 2012 will serve a pancake breakfast at the elementary school after the Fun Run. Breakfast tickets: $5 in advance and $6 at the door. No charge for children under 3. The Jackson Soccer Club recreation coaches will play one another in a charity game to benefit the Jackson Food Pantry at 7 p.m. May 16 at the Jackson Justice Complex on West Veterans Highway. The American Cancer Society, Jersey Shore Region, is sponsoring a free program for women who are undergoing chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy. The program offers education on makeup, skin care and wigs to help improve self-esteem and promote a positive outlook. The Orchards at Bartley, 100 North County Line Road, Jackson, will sponsor a free presentation from 3:30-4:30 p.m. May 20.
