"Transitioning to Organic Gardening," a free seminar, will be presented by the Jackson Township Going Green Committee from 7-9 p.m. May 21 at the Jackson municipal building, 95 West Veterans Highway. Details: 732-928-1200.

The Howell Township Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 9691 will host its Memorial Day services with the Farmingdale American Legion Post 178 on May 25 at Howell town hall at 11 a.m. and in Farmingdale at Lutz Park at 11:30 a.m.

The Jackson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4703, in cooperation with the township of Jackson, will hold its annual Memorial Day parade and memorial services on May 25. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. at Jackson Memorial High School on Don Connor Boulevard and march to the Jackson Justice Complex. Ceremonies will follow. The public will then be invited for light refreshments at the post home at 54 Magnolia Drive, Jackson. The Italian American Association of Monmouth County will hold a general meeting May 27 at Christie's Restaurant, Route 9 south, Howell. Scholarship awards will be presented. Those wishing to attend the dinner portion of the meeting may do so from 6:30-7:45 p.m. at a cost of $30, (price includes dinner, dessert and coffee). Those wishing to attend the business portion of the meeting may arrive at 8 pm for coffee and dessert at a cost of $7. Details: 732-536- 5832.

A rummage sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 28 and 29 at the First Baptist Church of Lakewood, First Street and Clifton Avenue, Lakewood.

The American Cancer Society will hold a Relay For Life event May 29-30 at Howell High School, Howell, from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. There will be a survivors' dinner 5- 7 p.m., a luminaria ceremony at 10 p.m. and a closing ceremony at 6 a.m. Details: www.RelayForLife.org/Howellnj.

"Under Our Skin," an award-winning film about Lyme disease and ticks, will be shown in honor of Lyme Disease Awareness Month at the Jackson library, 2 Jackson Drive, Jackson, at 1 p.m. May 30. A Gator Gallop 5K Run sponsored by St. Aloysius School, Jackson, will be held at 9 a.m. May 31 at Jackson Memorial High School, Don Connor Boulevard. The Howell Board of Education will hold its regular meetings in the cafetorium of Howell Middle School North, 501 Squankum-Yellowbrook Road, Howell, at 8 p.m. on the following Wednesdays: June 3, June 17, July 15, Aug. 12, 26, Sept, 16, Oct. 7, 21, Nov. 18, Dec. 2, 16, Jan. 13, Feb. 3, 17, March 3, 24.

Used books will be collected by the Friends of the Plumsted Library for a sale to be held in November. Fiction, nonfiction, large print, children's books in addition to videos, CDs, DVDs, audio books and jigsaw puzzles will be accepted. Books that are more than 4 years old, in poor condition, computer books, encyclopedias and magazines will not be accepted. Books can be dropped off behind the library on Evergreen Road on June 6, July 4, Aug. 1, Sept. 5 and Oct. 3 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Do not leave items if no one is present. Details: 609-758- 0009.

The Jackson Women of Today, a nonprofit organization dedicated to community service, will sponsor its annual Mother's Fair from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 7 at Fire Station No. 55 at New Prospect and Larsen roads, Jackson. Alan Kitty will be performing his impersonation of Mark Twain at 7 p.m. June 11 at the Jackson library, 2 Jackson Drive, Jackson. Kitty has been performing as Mark Twain for 30 years and will entertain the audience with wit and humor using stories and anecdotes. The program is free and open to the public. A pasta dinner fundraiser to help the people affected by the earthquake in Italy will be held at noon June 14 at the Central Jersey Italian-American Club, 36 Cpl. Luigi Marciante Jr. Memorial Drive, Jackson. Cost: $10 per adult, $5 for children 12 and under. Details: 732-370-9820.

Plumsted Township Senior Outreach Search (SOS) will be available every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon at 121 Evergreen Road (in the municipal building).
