Mayor honors Girl Scout
Alexandra Murdocca JACKSON — Alexandra Murdocca, 18, of Jackson, has been selected by the Freemasons Grand Lodge as Girl Scout of the Year and was recently honored by township officials.
Murdocca has already completed all of the graduation requirements established by the Jackson School District and will officially graduate from Jackson Liberty High School on June 25. During this semester, she is attending classes at Ocean County College, Toms River.
"Alexandra has earned this statewide honor by daily living the Girl Scout mission," Mayor Michael Reina said during the April 28 meeting of the Township Council. "She is a girl with courage, confidence and character."
He said that with her 13 years of experience in the Girl Scouts, Alexandra has acquired confidence, independence and the courage to stand up for what she believes in. Reina called the young woman an excellent role model for all youth.
At Jackson Liberty High School, Murdocca has been the president of the Key Club. Her fundraising efforts have benefited organizations such as the Children's Specialized Hospital and the Red Cloud Indian School on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.
"Alexandra has also been chosen as a representative to the Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore Board of Directors," Reina told those in attendance at the meeting.
She recently completed her Girl Scout Gold Award project, Supporting Our Veterans, which raised awareness and focused on the needs of homeless veterans. Through her efforts, items were donated and distributed to veterans in need.
The mayor said Alexandra inspired younger Girl Scouts to participate in the project.
"I commend you for all your hard work and dedication," Reina told Murdocca. "Congratulations to you for being awarded the Girl Scout of the Year. It is most deserved."
