The Howell Board of Education will hold its regular meetings in the cafetorium of Howell Township Middle School North, 501 Squankum-Yellowbrook Road, Howell, at 8 p.m. on the following Wednesdays: June 17, July 15, Aug. 12, 26, Sept, 16, Oct. 7, 21, Nov. 18, Dec. 2, 16, Jan. 13, Feb. 3, 17, March 3, 24.

Used books will be collected by the Friends of the Plumsted Library for a sale to be held in November. Fiction, nonfiction, large print, children's books in addition to videos, CDs, DVDs, audio books and jigsaw puzzles will be accepted. Books that are more than 4 years old or in poor condition, in addition to computer books, encyclopedias and magazines, will not be accepted. Books can be dropped off behind the library on Evergreen Road June 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Do not leave items if no one is present. Details: 609-758-0009.

"Keeping You and Your Home Safe" will be presented by Jackson Police Officer Frank Cipully on June 6 from noon to 2 p.m. at Sunrise Senior Living of Jackson, 390 North County Line Road, Jackson. Free admission, snacks and refreshments. RSVP at 732-928-5600 by June 1.

The Jackson Women of Today, a nonprofit organization dedicated to community service, will sponsor its annual Mother's Fair from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 7 at Fire Station No. 55, New Prospect and Larsen roads, Jackson. A car wash to raise funds for the American Cancer Society will be conducted by the youth group of St. Monica's Church from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 7 at the Jackson First Aid Squad building, 38 E. Veterans Highway, Jackson.

Beginner ballroom dancing sessions for couples age 16 and up will be conducted by Joanne Murphy from June 8 to July 13 on Monday evenings from 7-8 p.m. at the Howell recreation building, 251 Preventorium Road, Howell. The Lakewood library, 301 Lexington Ave., Lakewood, will present "Cheap Summer," for those vacationing close to home, as part of its "Let's Talk" series. Attendees will discover many inexpensive and free things to do and see around Ocean County. Details: 732-363-1435, ext. 2511.

The Cream Ridge Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting at 6:30 p.m. June 9 at the New Egypt First Aid Squad building, 32 Brynmore Road, Plumsted. All lot owners are invited to attend. Details: 609-758-8663.

Alan Kitty will be performing his impersonation of Mark Twain at 7 p.m. June 11 at the Jackson library, 2 Jackson Drive, Jackson. Kitty has been performing as Mark Twain for 30 years and will entertain the audience with wit and humor using stories and anecdotes. The program is free and open to the public. Register now. • Jersey Shore PFLAG will conduct its monthly support group meeting 7-9 p.m. June 10 at the United Church of Christ of Toms River, 1681 Ridgeway Road (Route 571), Manchester. The film "De Colores: Lesbian and Gay Latinos, Stories of Strength, Family and Love" will be shown. The meetings offer support, education and advocacy for people who have lesbians and gays, bisexuals, transgender and intersex people in their lives. • A fish fry sponsored by the New Egypt Elks, 105 Lakewood Road, Plumsted, will be held 6-8 p.m. June 12 at the lodge. The cost for a fish dinner is $9 (two pieces) and $10 (three pieces). A public hearing will be held at the Jackson Township Senior Center, 45 Don Connor Blvd., at 10 a.m. June 12 for the Ocean County Office of Senior Services. The topic will be the needs of older adults in Ocean County. The hearing is open to all Ocean County residents age 60 or older, caregivers, and the general public.
