Because Jackson's municipal government operates on a July 1 to June 30 year, the Planning Board follows the same calendar. The board held its final meeting of the current government year on June 15. Athletes and coaches have a lot to offer us. I learned this last night as I sat among the crowd at a Sky Blue FC game and listened to Head Coach Kelly Lindsey give what was billed as a coach's "chalk talk." This woman, a former professional player herself, is young enough to be my daughter, but on this evening, she was wise enough to be my sage. More...

As we well remember, Gov. Jon Corzine and his ruling party shut down the state for seven days in 2006 while they fought behind closed doors on how best to provide what they later called "permanent" and "sustainable" property tax relief for the nation's highest taxed homeowners. More...
Faced with a very weak economy, high unemployment, furloughs and pay cuts, many New Jersey families are planning to vacation in-state this year, traveling no farther than our famous beaches and boardwalks. Even then, a recent poll by Monmouth University/Gannett shows some residents are eliminating visits to the shore altogether and others will be staying fewer days. More...
In our family, we love to tell the story about Grandpa and the goose, although if he were still alive, he'd probably get a nasty letter from PETA berating him for inhuman cruelty. That organization got so upset last week when President Obama swatted a fly on camera, there's no telling what they'd do if they heard about the strangled goose. More...
