Jackson students honored
JACKSON — Students from Jackson Memorial High School and Jackson Liberty High School were recently recognized for their accomplishments by administrators in the Jackson School District.
At a recent meeting of the Jackson Board of Education, board President Barbara Fiero said, "This is a very exciting time of year for our students, especially our seniors, who are wrapping up their high school careers and beginning to look to the future. It is also exciting for us as a board to hear about their accomplishments and get ready to share in their achievements."
Students who were present at the meeting were selected for county and state awards in recognition of their leadership, scholarship and service.
The students who this year earned the Ocean County Superintendents Roundtable Scholarship from Jackson Memorial High School are Eric Hamilton, who is heading to Muhlenberg College to study biology and pre-med, and Breanna Caruso, who is heading to Colgate University to study psychology, chemistry and neuroscience.
Ocean County Superintendents Roundtable Scholarship winners from Jackson Liberty High School are Monica Pirigyi, who is heading to the University of Delaware to prepare for a career as a physician, and Alexandra Murdocca, who is heading to George Mason University to prepare for a career as an attorney.
"The Ocean County Mayors Association scholarship is also awarded annually to outstanding high school students," said Fiero. "Please help me congratulate Cory Leviton from Jackson Memorial High School, who will attend the United States Naval Academy, and Alexandra Murdocca from Jackson Liberty High School."
The School Business Administrators Association presents scholarships to outstanding students with a focus toward business study.
"We are pleased to announce that our student board member from Jackson Memorial High School is the recipient of this award this year," said Fiero. "Please help me congratulate Ryan Blake, who will be heading to the University of Maryland to join their business program."
