      Libonati ready to make mark at Rutgers
            Football players generally do not look forward to the start of preseason practice. It means two-a-days in the heat and humidity of August. The experience is similar to going to military boot camp. There is one local player, however, who cannot wait for preseason football practice to start in August, and that is Howell High School graduate Nicholas Libonati.

      Holbrook all-stars win Section 3 championship
            The Holbrook Little League Junior All-Stars from Jackson will be playing for a state baseball championship in Madison this week after winning the Section 3 championship. The team's goal is to advance to the Junior Little League World Series to be held in Taylor, Mich., Aug. 16-22.

      Martial arts students compete in Lakewood
            On May 30 more than 500 martial arts students from Monmouth and Ocean counties competed in the 10th annual Black Cat Karate Championships held at Lakewood High School. The competitors, whose ages ranged from 4 to 55, came from martial arts schools belonging to the United States Black Cat Kenpo Karate Federation (Grandmaster Art Beins, president).

            Kristen Coyne, Rudolph Maag and Gary Finnigan Jr. are the Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association's 2009-10 scholarship winners. They were chosen by the SBOANJ Scholarship Committee based on their academic standing, community service, financial need as well as eligibility.
