Jackson's Watt set for next challenge

      Shannon Watt has dealt well with the pressure of being one of the most decorated throwers in the history of JacksonMemorial High School's track and field program in the shot put and discus. Watt, a high school All-American, is heading to Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass., this fall. She was the valedictorian of the class of 2009 at Jackson Memorial.

Howell South Seniors win District 11 crown
      Capturing the Little League Senior League District 11 tournament championship meant everything to the Howell South Little League All-Stars. The Senior League is for players who are 15 and 16 years old. Howell South did not have a player on its squad who had played junior varsity or varsity baseball for Howell High School.

      The Run for Water 5K at Monmouth Battlefield State Park, Manalapan, on July 25 was a hit. With more than 150 runners participating in either the 5K race or the half-mile Fun Run, the field exceeded expectations for a first-year event in a difficult economic time.

      The 11th annual golf outing sponsored by the Ocean County Foundation for Vocational Technical Education will be held on Sept. 21 at the Pine Ridge Golf Course in Lakehurst. Registration and a continental breakfast will be held 8-8:30 a.m. The entry fee is $85 and includes greens fee, golf cart, locker, banquet, course refreshments, awards, prizes and goodie bags.
