• A free family festival, sponsored by Ocean Health Initiatives, will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 15, rain or shine, at Lakewood Town Square, near Clifton Avenue. The festival is geared for all ages and will offer food, games, the fun bus, prizes, health screenings and other activities.
• The mayor's flea market will be held at Johnson Park, Jackson, on Aug. 15. The township will discard any items not sold. Only Jackson vendors holding a food retail license will be permitted to sell food. The fee is $5 per 8 feet of space. Vendors must provide their own tables. Rain date is Aug. 16. • The Orchards at Bartley, 100 North County Line Road, Jackson, is sponsoring a free presentation 1:30-2:30 p.m. Aug. 18. Dinese Fennel will present tips to assist seniors in learning how to prevent falls, improve balance and strengthen bones. • Supergym will hold a Community Adventure Bootcamp on Aug. 18 at 6:30 p.m. in Pine Park, Lakewood. This community initiative to get active during the summer is sponsored by Supergym, but participants do not have to be members to take part in the activities. All are invited to participate in the free one-hour class. Participants are asked to register in advance in person at Supergym, Brook Plaza at South New Prospect and County Line roads, Jackson, and bring water and a beach towel or mat for the core exercises and ending stretches. • Bat Shalom Hadassah of Jackson- Howell will hold its monthly general meeting followed by a presentation about the Jewish community of Cuba at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 20 at the community room of Westlake Mews, Jackson. Guest speaker Muriel Hertan will discuss her trip to Cuba, the Cuban Jewish community and the ORT School, as well as the history of the Cuban Jews and what life is like for them on the island. • A picnic and poker run to benefit special needs children will be hosted by the Jackson Elks at their lodge, 1059 East Veterans Highway, Jackson, on Aug. 22. Signup for the poker run will begin at 10 a.m. The picnic will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Donation for the picnic is $20 per person, free for children under age 12.
