Business Briefs Garden State Council-Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) will conduct its 18th annual Human Resources Conference and Expo, "Blueprint for a Changing Reality," Oct. 25-27 at Ocean Place Resort and Spa, Long Branch. The state conference is a local educational and networking opportunity for human resources (HR) professionals in New Jersey and surrounding communities. Supergym in Jackson is offering free classes to the community to learn Michael Jackson's "Thriller" dance. Classes will be held Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday afternoons at 1:30 p.m. beginning Sept. 10. There is no fee, no obligation, and attendees do not have to be members of Supergym. The Orchards at Bartley is hosting a special series of events for its residents in celebration of the 15th annual National Assisted Living Week, Sept. 13-19. The community is invited to participate in a sidewalk sale on Sept. 13 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The sale will feature food and beverages for sale, as well as vendors selling crafts, jewelry, beauty products and others, with all proceeds benefiting the Alzheimer's Association. National Assisted Living Week is a week set aside to celebrate and recognize the exceptional involvement of families, providers, volunteers, and individuals from the local community, who work together to ensure seniors have access to quality assisted living services. Sun National Bank has promoted Jackson resident Art Hornak from vice president and project manager of Sun Financial Services LLC to senior vice president and project manager. Sun Financial Services is the bank's consumer investment services division. In this role, Hornak will continue to oversee the consumer investment representatives who serve Sun customers throughout its footprint in New Jersey. He manages financial executives' daily operations, including sales and management of annuities, mutual funds and life insurance policies. Additionally, he works closely with his team to build and maintain meaningful relationships, and provides customers with personalized investment strategies that best fit their needs. JustMATH, an individualized tutoring company for math only, serving New Jersey for more than seven years, has launched an online site for math students in pre-algebra through advanced calculus. The site, www.justmathhelp.com, is available from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. The online tutors never just give answers, but guide students by making sure the math concepts necessary to answer a question are understood. The site is also available on Facebook and Twitter. Lakewood Mayor Robert W. Singer is encouraging businesses and institutions to apply for the 2009 Governor's Environmental Excellence Awards. The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection established this program 10 years ago to recognize individuals, businesses, institutions and communities who have made significant contributions to environmental protection in New Jersey. A new category this year is the Sustainable and Healthy Communities category that focuses on recognition of green projects at the municipal level.
