Civilian military jobs available
As civilian unemployment rolls continue to swell across the nation, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst has announced there will be civilian job openings for qualified individuals in a variety of fields.
"Base officials are encouraging qualified applicants to actively monitor www.usajobs. gov in order to apply through the website for several federal civilian job vacancies in various career fields and pay grades here," said 1st Lt. James Davern, 87th Force Support Squadron.
"Many of the positions will be created as a result of the ongoing joint-basing initiative, in which McGuire Air Force Base, Fort Dix and Naval Air Engineering Station Lakehurst are merging into one installation in an effort to streamline installation support," he said.
Davern said more jobs will open in the future as Joint Base McGuire-Dix- Lakehurst nears full-operational capability on Oct. 1. There will be a total of about 200 federal civilian job openings in the upcoming months, the lieutenant said.
Individuals can access the most current list of job openings by typing McGuire, NJ, in the location section under the Search Jobs category on the www.usajobs.gov homepage.
Individuals are reminded that the announcement close-out dates may vary from position to position and applicants can only apply during the actual timeframe a particular job announcement is open.
Applicants may create an account with www.usajobs.gov and set up automatic notification emails through the website.
All applicants will be subject to background checks and, if hired by the government, will require security clearances to gain access to the installation, according to a press release.
Approximately 50 positions are available for Air Reserve Technicians (ART), Davern said.
An ART carries dual status, working as a full-time Department of Defense civil service employee while performing the same job as a reservist in an Air Force Reserve Command unit.
