JMHS band to host showcase
JACKSON — The Jackson Memorial High School Jaguar Marching Band will host a Showcase of Champions beginning at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 3. The event will take place at the high school football field, Don Connor Boulevard.
"There will be 19 high school marching bands participating in this year's competition," said Jackson Memorial Band Parents Association Vice President Suzanne Rogalsky. "This is one of the largest band competitions in New Jersey this year."
Proceeds from the competition will be used to purchase equipment and instruments for the Jaguar band and to support other activities that are not included in the regular Jackson School District budget.
The competition is part of the United States Scholastic Band Association circuit that runs shows throughout the fall across the country. The local competitions help rank the bands, which will then compete in championships in November.
Under the direction of Bud McCormick and Jessie Katona, the Jaguar band competes on the USSBA circuit.
The Oct. 3 Showcase of Champions is sponsored by the Jackson Memorial Band Parents and Students Association, an organization dedicated to raising money to support the activities of the band.
Tickets will be available at the gate on Oct. 3 and the event will be held rain or shine.
