Army Pfc. George R. Hankins, son of George K. and Maryellen Hankins of Howell, has arrived at the U.S. Naval Base, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to serve as a member of Joint Task Force-GTMO in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and/or Operation Iraqi Freedom. Service members from all branches of the U.S. armed forces are involved in a joint military operation whose mission is to conduct safe and humane care and custody of detained enemy combatants, and conduct interrogation operations to collect strategic intelligence; and ensure and support coordination among government agencies involved in the detention of suspected terrorists. Hankins is a resettlement specialist assigned to the 189th Military Police Company at Guantanamo Bay. The private first class, a 2007 graduate of Colts High School, has served in the military for two years.
