GCU president Jeffries tapped to serve on transition team

New Jersey Governor-elect Chris Christie recently named Georgian Court University President Rosemary E. Jeffries to the education subcommittee of his transition team.

According to a press release from the university, Jeffries brings to the bipartisan group her extensive experience in leadership roles at colleges, universities, and nonprofit organizations, and in pastoral ministry, public affairs, and classroom education.

"It is an honor to work alongside the 20 education transition subcommittee members who were named by the governor-elect," she said.

"From preschool through college, the education of all of our young people in New Jersey is a critical ingredient in the future of our state, and I am sure the new administration will seek ways to ensure the quality education New Jersey is noted for will continue and improve in the years ahead," Jeffries said.

The teams assembled by Christie are tasked with conducting "a top-to-bottom review of their respective government department and agency," according to the press release.

In his first official blog statement, Christie added, "There is no doubt that there is a lot of hard work ahead of us, but we have already started putting together a team that will take the necessary first steps to shrink our growing budget deficit and help put our economy back on track."

Jeffries also referenced the state's current financial state and its impact on education, adding that, "Despite the challenging economic times, the importance of investing in education is still critical to our future and to the future of the next generation."
