      Green Wave topples Jaguars in SCT wrestling final
           Doug Hamann returned to the lineup from a bout with mononucleosis, but the Jackson Memorial High School wrestling team could not stop Long Branch from becoming the first Monmouth County school to win three straight Shore Conference Tournament championships as the Jaguars fell to the Green Wave, 29-23, on Jan. 30.

      Jackson youth wrestlers continue strong showing
           The Jackson I recreation wrestling team’s storied youth program will look to wrap up a sixth straight unbeaten season in the Jersey Shore Junior Wrestling League and stretch its win streak, currently at 90 league matches, when it closes its regular season on Feb. 6 against Brick Recreation Mat Rats I at Jackson Liberty High School.

            Several local champions from the 2010 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship that was held at St. Veronica’s School, Howell, have earned the right to advance to the district competition.

      Rebels honor coaches who built mat program
           On the night of Dec. 22, 2009, the Howell High School wrestling team defeated Allentown High School, 55-13, in a dual meet. That win was more than just an earlyseason victory. When the record books were checked, it turned out that the Rebels’ victory over the Redbirds was the 500th dual meet victory in the program’s history.

      Lions sending several swimmers to conference meet
           Dual meet victories do not come easily as the young swimmers on the Jackson Liberty High School girls and boys swim teams measure gradual strides of progress. However, Jackson Liberty’s girls team had a chance to finish the 2009-10 season with a .500 record all the way down to its final meet when it lost to Howell on Jan. 28.

      Jags’ Gillon captures two titles at conference meet
           Afew weeks into the 2009-10 indoor season, senior Tylia Gillon of the Jackson Memorial High School indoor track and field team followed the encouragement of her father and support of her coach and decided to run the 400-meter dash for the first time, as well as the 55-meter dash.

      Gilbertson, Berg win conference crowns
           Howell High School’s Maggie Gilbertson and Freehold Township High School’s Kelly Berg added Shore Conference championships to their winter résumés. One week after winning Monmouth County titles, Gilbertson and Berg were victorious at the Jan. 29 Shore Conference Championships in Toms River.
