      Warriors open state play with win over Riverside
           The New Egypt High School boys basketball team eyed revenge in its NJSIAA South Jersey Group I state sectional tournament opener on March 1 when it took on Riverside High School of Burlington County at home. New Egypt was moved from the Central Jersey Group I state sectional field to the South Jersey sectional field this season.

      3 Jaguars win region titles
           B.J. Young will lead a contingent of six wrestlers from Jackson Memorial High School into this weekend’s NJSIAA individual state wrestling championships in Atlantic City. Young (130), Devin Biscaha (145) and Doug Hamann (152) each won Region VI titles on Feb. 27 at the Ritacco Center in Toms River.

      Third place in states caps Jags’ big season
      Jackson Memorial bowlers distinguished themselves with 2010 performances
           It has been more than 30 years since the Jackson Memorial High School boys bowling team reached the NJSIAA state tournament finals. But the Jaguars saved their best for last to reach the final day of action at Carolier Lanes, North Brunswick, on Feb. 20 and nailed down a third-place finish in the team standings.

      Howell bowlers sweep county championships
           The titles keep adding up for the Howell High School bowling teams. The Rebels swept the Monmouth County Championships on Feb. 19 at Howell Lanes in Howell. The Howell girls put an exclamation mark on their championship season by overwhelming the competition and winning by 575 pins, 2,733-2,158, over runner-up Keyport High School.

      Boca soccer club seeks players for 2010 season
           The Jersey Shore Boca soccer club has announced that the club will be entering two teams in the Mid-Atlantic Summer Showcase League (MSSL) for the 2010 season and is searching for the top men’s and women’s college-age players from the shore area to join the club for the spring and summer.

      Howell’s Gilbertson second in high jump
           High jumper Maggie Gilbertson’s goal going into every competition is to clear a height on her first attempt. That goal helped her win the Group IV state title, and at the NJSIAA Meet of Champions on Feb. 27 it put her on the cusp of the Meet of Champions crown.

      BlueClaws seek host families for players
           The Lakewood BlueClaws minor league baseball team is once again looking for local families to assist in housing players during the 2010 season. Anyone with a spare room can help provide lodging for this year’s BlueClaws by providing space or renting a room or apartment, according to a press release from the team.
