Howell upset shakes up CJ IV boys basketball

     It did not take very long for the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group IV state sectional boys basketball tournament brackets to get blown up. On the first night of the tournament, March 1, coach Brian Quick’s Howell High School Rebels produced one of the biggest wins in school history when the Rebels shocked No. 2 seed Trenton Central, 48-47, in Trenton.

Howell boys win share of A North swim title

     Claiming a share of the Shore Conference A North Division public school championship highlighted the finest season ever put together by the Howell High School boys swim team. The Rebels were 7-6 in dual meets, and their 4-2 mark in A North made them trichampions of the public school division with Freehold Township and Marlboro.

BlueClaws seek host families for players
     The Lakewood BlueClaws minor league baseball team is once again looking for local families to assist in housing players during the 2010 season. Anyone with a spare room can help provide lodging for this year’s BlueClaws by providing space or renting a room or apartment, according to a press release from the team.

Warriors’ season included first state tourney wins

     The 2009-10 New Egypt High School girls basketball team was a study of teamwork as it capped its greatest season ever with its first NJSIAA state sectional tournament victories in the South Jersey Group I bracket before No. 1 seed Paulsboro ended the squad’s season with a 53-41 victory over the Warriors on March 6.

BlueClaws to host FanFest-10
     The Lakewood BlueClaws annual Fan- Fest will return to FirstEnergy Park, New Hampshire and Cedar Bridge avenues, Lakewood, on March 20 from noon to 5 p.m. FanFest marks the day that individual game tickets for the 10th season in BlueClaws history will go on sale to the general public, and the event will include a full day of free fun at the ballpark.
