Jackson police are looking for a man who tried to grab a woman who had stopped on the side of a road to deal with car trouble. JACKSON — Police are still looking for a white male in his late 30s to early 40s who attempted to kidnap a 33-year-old woman who stopped her car at the side of the road in Jackson on May 2.

The woman, a Toms River resident, was driving through Jackson en route to her home at about 4:15 p.m. when she stopped on Bowman Road just off East Veterans Highway to check a tire on her vehicle.

“When she stopped, she thought she had a problem with a tire,” said Jackson Police Department Uniform Service Commander Capt. David Newman. “[However,] she determined there was no problem.”

While the woman was checking her vehicle, another vehicle pulled up behind her and a male exited.

According to police, after the woman told the man she was OK, the man grabbed her shoulder and began to pull her toward his vehicle while making verbal commands indicating the same. The woman was subsequently struck in the facial area and sustained minor injuries as she attempted to get away from the man.

The suspect was described as having a muscular build and appeared to be between 6 feet 1 inch and 6 feet 3 inches in height, with short, dirty-blond hair and a lighter colored moustache. He had a deep voice. The man was wearing blue jeans, a light Tshirt and tan work boots.

Police said the man’s vehicle was described as a newer, smaller-size, four-door sedan, similar in size and style to a Honda Civic, and it was dark in color, possibly black.

Police said there is no relationship between the woman and the suspect, and said there have been no reports of any other remotely similar incidents in Jackson.

“To date, no arrest has been made and the investigation is continuing,” Newman said on May 10.

Detectives are actively seeking witnesses in the incident, including the driver of a white Jeep Wrangler that may have passed the Bowman Road scene as the incident was occurring. The Jeep was being operated with its top down and was said to have numerous bumper stickers.

The driver of the Jeep and anyone who may have witnessed the May 2 incident or who may have any information regarding the suspect is asked to contact Jackson Detective Campbell Brown at 732-833-3008.
