The Lakewood Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ) Microloan Program is accepting applications for loans up to $35,000 a year. Microloans, designed for small business growth and development, and job creation in Lakewood, are available for businesses seeking to establish, expand or redevelop their companies. Funds may also be used for working capital, supplies and machinery, and purchase of inventory. Microloans cannot be used to refinance existing debt.

Businesses that qualify can receive loans with an advantageous interest rate and a repayment period between five and 10 years.

Interested parties can pick up applications at the UEZ office, Room 12 of the Lakewood municipal building, or download an application from the township website at www.twp.lakewood.nj.us.

Patricia Komsa, executive director of Lakewood’s UEZ, said, “Typically a small business is one that earns under $500,000 gross and has 10 or fewer employees. The criteria we use for a small business is flexible, but the business must be a certified UEZ business to take advantage of all these programs.”

If a business is not certified, call the Lakewood UEZ office at 732-364-2500, ext. 5217 to learn how to become certified.

The Jean Mehr Infusion Center offers a spacious and calming atmosphere for patients and their families. The center has doubled in size from six to 12 stations to provide chemotherapy and other treatments quickly and efficiently, and includes a private procedure room.

This is the third cancer-related program announced by CentraState this year. It follows the launch of robotic surgery for prostate cancer and other procedures in May, and groundbreaking for a proton therapy treatment center — in conjunction with ProCure Cancer Centers Inc. and Princeton Radiation Oncology —in April.

When the latter opens in Somerset in 2012, it will be the only advanced cancerfighting facility of its kind in the New Jersey New York metro area, and the ninth in the United States.
