Have you ever wondered while playing a round of golf if you would meet a professional baseball player on the course? You can raise your odds of that happening by 100 percent on Aug. 11 when the Lakewood BlueClaws Charities Foundation swings into action at 3 p.m. at the Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Lakewood.

The nonprofit foundation of the Lakewood BlueClaws contributed more than $150,000 to area nonprofit organizations through its fundraising events in 2009.

BlueClaws General Manager Geoff Brown said, “Being a strong and active part of the community has been a priority for us since day one. We are grateful to those who have supported all of our charitable events.”

Participation in the Aug. 11 golf event includes nine holes of scramble format golf, range balls, locker room usage, post-golf reception, player meet-and-greet on the course throughout the event and at the postgolf reception, and a raffle ticket with a chance to win prizes.

As a special added attraction, joining the players at each tee will be the Coors Lite Girls, handing out water and smiles of encouragement to all the golfers.

Non-golfers may attend the post-golf reception, which includes a meal and an opportunity to mingle with BlueClaws players who may one day end up playing in the major leagues.

Sponsorship opportunities are available, from being a tee sponsor all the way up to being a tournament sponsor. All individuals and foursomes are welcome to participate.

The tournament will be conducted as a scramble format. Each team picks out the best shot of four until the team has holed out. General golf rules apply.
