Sweet Adelines will head west

Liberty Oak Chorus, a member of Sweet Adelines International, based in Freehold, is getting ready for the international contest stage. The international contest is being held in Seattle, Wash., during the week of Oct. 19-23.

In last year’s regional contest, this award-winning chorus placed second out of 15 regional choruses. Their score was so high that it qualified the group for one of only five wild-card spots in the world. Wildcard spots are selected from the five highest scoring second-place choruses, according to a press release.

The women will be competing with 42 other choruses for a coveted place in the finals. According to the press release, it takes commitment, hard work and much practice to excel in their barbershop art form.

The women’s musical skills include a cappella harmony and great choreography. The ladies rehearse weekly in Freehold to produce melodic four-part harmony of traditional and modern songs in their current repertoire.

According to the press release, they are looking forward to the excitement and the challenge of the international stage.

Adult women of all ages are welcome to visit rehearsals. Individuals who would like to join the Liberty Oak Chorus may contact Johanna Herudek. Call 732-252-6171 for more information or visit www.libertyoakchorus. org.
