American Legion post is growing in Jackson

JACKSON — Wartime-era veterans have an opportunity to join in on a partnership that will increase community service in the area.

Representatives of Jackson American Legion Post 504 are inviting all wartimeera veterans in the area to join them in providing service to local veterans and their families.

The American Legion is the nation’s largest veterans organization.

Honorably discharged veterans, along with those currently serving, from the following eras — World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Lebanon, Grenada, Panama, or recent and current Gulf War/War on Terrorism (Aug. 2, 1990 to present) — are eligible to join Jackson American Legion Post 504.

In keeping with the more than 90-year tradition of the American Legion, Post 504 focuses on community service and assistance to veterans, according to a press release.

The scope and nature of the post’s success is largely determined by the efforts of its members together with input from local civic and community officials, the post representatives said.

Since its inception in 1919, the American Legion has been an outspoken advocate for veterans’ benefits, children and youth, patriotic American values, a strong national defense and quality-of-life issues for those serving in today’s armed forces.
